1 - 4 pm
Bertucci Education Studio

Isabella Stewart Gardner carefully curated all the tiles you see in the Historic Collection today. From collaborating with Pennsylvania’s Moravian Pottery and Tile Works to create custom tiles for her Museum’s gallery floors to installing almost 2,000 painted and glazed tiles from the Church of San Agustìn in Atlixco, Mexico, in the Museum’s Spanish Cloister, Isabella cared deeply for every detail of her collection.

In this Open Studio, we invite you to closely observe the Talavera style of colorful, glazed tiles that Isabella particularly loved. Learn more about this traditional Mexican artform and let your imagination guide you as you use markers to create your own motifs on ceramic tiles that you can add to your personal collection.
