Purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner from the collection of Emile Peyre (1828-1904), Paris with two similar objects (museum nos. S9n2 and S9n4) for 1,100 francs on 17 July 1897, through Fernand Robert, her regular agent in Paris.
Commentary
Isabella Stewart Gardner kept meticulous records of many of her acquisitions. In keeping with this legacy, object information is continually being reviewed, updated, and enriched in order to give greater access to the collection.
