Porcelain with enamel, 6.5 x 19.1 x 9.8 cm (2 9/16 x 7 1/2 x 3 7/8 in.)
This Chinese covered box is titled “Musicians in a Garden”. The rectangular box is made of porcelain with enamel. The lid of this rectangular box is decorated with two scenes. The scene to our left depicts two figures, one in blue and the other in orange, kneeling facing each other. The one in orange is holding a rod that is pointed toward the chest of the other figure. A bench and a tree are pictured beside them. The right side has a scene with three figures; two seated, wearing white and blue, and a standing figure wearing a green robe. The figure in blue is looking at a scroll. The standing figure is carrying a box. The edge of the lid is decorated with a green and orange floral motif. The front of the box has three sections. The larger center medallion pictures three birds among tree branches. A light blue and green geometric border is painted around it. On each side are two orange flowers with light green leaves on a speckled background. A similar decoration is on the back-side of the box. The shorter side ends of the box have a scene of two birds on tree branches. A gold edged divider splits the inside of the box into two long rectangular spaces.
