The aesthetics of a photograph are closely tied to the materials and techniques of the artist's process. Conservators, who often measure and catalogue cultural objects' attributes, can offer insights into artists' motivations and the social context within which they work. Adrienne Lundgren, Senior Photograph Conservator at the Library of Congress, examines the form of the photographic oeuvre of F. Holland Day, and will share how learning the language of Day's materials sheds light on his relationship with sitter Thomas Langryl Harris.
Adrienne Lundgren has been a Senior Photograph Conservator at the Library of Congress since 2002. Her research interests are focused on the technical aspects of photography and how they influence our understanding of the medium.
