These two, nearly identical, lanterns are made of hand forged iron with gilding and paint. The gilding is most visible on the leaves surrounding three red roses painted. The roses have four separate rows of ironwork petals that decrease in size and connect at the center of the flower with a round, gilded, iron brad.  These flowers, with their surrounding gilded leaves, form a horizontal row within an elaborate bracket that attaches to a wall. Each bracket is formed into complicated floral scrollwork that emerges from a pair of simple hinges. The hinges allow the brackets to swing toward and away from the wall to which they are connected. Their curving scrollwork reaches out and ends in a large open lily. The overall design resembles a tangle of thin stems ending in curlicues, tight spirals, realistic leaves, and flowers. A lantern hangs from a hand forged black iron chain connected to the lily on the bracket. The lantern’s bell-shaped rounded top connects to an irregular octagonal base with eight small finials. Four large rectangular glass walls alternate with four narrow rectangular glass walls. One of the larger walls is hinged and opens to service the lantern’s light source. Each of the eight walls of the lantern is decorated with a thin iron work arch and stylized flowers. The base of the lantern is solid metal with eight small iron feet.
