Two Choir Stalls (Stalli di coro), 17th century

This attached pair of walnut choir stalls stands against a blue wall. Along the top of the piece are several carved figures. At each end and in the center are urn-like figures. Between these, to our left and right, are pairs of lions shown back-to-back with their tails curling up and around. Below the figures, the wood flares out slightly with a row of dentil molding just below. The back of each piece is a series of raised panels. The top panel to our right shows a long vertical crack in the wood. Ribbed columns on each side and in the center rest on high curving arms. A divided flat bench forms each seat.
