This horizontal albumen print photograph shows two gondolas, floating side by side in a canal and pointing forward toward us. Each gondola has two standing, paddling gondoliers in white clothing and wide-brimmed hats. Although we can only see a man in dark clothing seated in each gondola, we know from the title of the work that the gondolas contain Jack and Isabella Gardner and Anders and Emma Zorn, in Venice. In the background, along the water, is a palace with many arched windows and a garden to our left. The print is light-filled, with reflections in the water.
