Given by the painter, businessman, and friend to artists and writers Gerald Murphy (1888-1964) and his wife Sara Wiborg Murphy (1883-1975) to Isabella Stewart Gardner when they performed Afro-American folk songs at Fenway Court on 12 May 1921.
Commentary
Isabella Stewart Gardner kept meticulous records of many of her acquisitions. In keeping with this legacy, object information is continually being reviewed, updated, and enriched in order to give greater access to the collection.
