This item is a well-used game printed on paper and featuring six vertical cards kept in a cover or sleeve. The cover is yellowed and worn and has a lined inner black border. The title “SYBILLINE LEAVES” is at the top in outlined capital letters, with “or Detector of the Thoughts” underneath in cursive, and “A NEW PUZZLE” beneath in all capitals. Below the title is a bearded, robed figure with rimmed glasses and a tall crown, seated facing us in a throne-like chair. He sits at a round table with a table cloth decorated with creatures resembling dragons or fish. The figure’s right hand (to our left) holds a wand, and its other hand is on a globe on the table. On the table is an open book and two papers, all featuring symbols. To the left of the figure are two shelves: one has a small alligator and one a skull. To the right are two more shelves: one with a compass and a right angle, and the second, a book. Each of the six cards features a black-lined grid of four columns and eight rows. The grid’s cells show a wide variety of images. They feature people doing activities, animals, and inanimate objects and symbols, such as teapots, locks, wagon wheels, sabers, flags, and dice.  Some of the images repeat on different cards; all are brightly colored using a variety of colors and shadings.
