This painting shows five robed Asian women surrounding a large caldron. The caldron emits steam that gradually forms a fire-breathing dragon in the inky blue night sky. The five women tending the caldron have black hair, pale skin, and scantily defined facial features. Despite the lack of detail they are individuals. Four of the five are wearing robes in varying shades of blue with different stylized floral patterning in blue, green, pink and gold. The fifth woman’s robe is coral with stylized pink and green chrysanthemums. The women all stare into a footed golden caldron with a dragon motif across its center. Serpentine formations of steam waft from the caldron and end high over their heads in a copper-colored fire breathing dragon whose head faces left while tendrils of copper-colored steam flow to the right. As the coppery steam escapes into the midnight blue, moonless night, some of it transforms into brownish-gold clouds as it gradually dissipates and further darkens the sky.
