Possibly cast as a commemorative medal of the 1888 silver jubilee of Princess Alexandra's marriage to the Prince of Wales.
Purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner from Feodora Gleichen through the novelist and poet Charles Hamilton Aidé (1826–1906) for £2 on 7 July 1894.
