Provenance
Probably a gift from the Japanese art historian and philosopher Okakura Kakuzo (1862-1913) to Isabella Stewart Gardner in 1904-1905, on his first visit to Boston.
Commentary
Isabella Stewart Gardner kept meticulous records of many of her acquisitions. In keeping with this legacy, object information is continually being reviewed, updated, and enriched in order to give greater access to the collection.
