The shovel and tongs of this American miniature set of fireplace tools are made of brass. The small pan of the shovel is plain brass with upturned edges on three sides and flat on the fourth. Attached to the center upturned edge, the long, very thin handle is grooved and slightly twisted terminating in two consecutive slightly bulbous knobs with a ring attached at the top, presumably for hanging. The top part of the tongs mimic the shovel with a round ring attached at the top end and a short handle with four consecutive bulbous forms below. At the bottom of the handle the two sides of the tongs bifurcate, arching laterally and then abruptly downward on each side to form the two thin, grooved, and twisted sides of the tongs, terminating in flattened points for use as pinchers.
