Two Feather Brushes (Ha-boki), early 20th century

These feather brushes are displayed horizontally. On top are what appear to be two overlapping hawk feathers with their feather ends to our left and their handles to our right. The hawk’s feathers are mostly chocolate brown with a few specks of white toward the spine. The spines are wrapped in a light brown paper wound with string in two places. Below is a stork feather brush with its feather end to our right and the handle to our left. The stork’s feather is brown at the tip end and white to the spine. The handle is similar to that on the hawk feather brush, wrapped in a light brown paper wound with string in two places with the addition of a red paper wrapped around between the two strings.
