Pair of Armchairs (Poltrone), 1700-1725
Walnut, 84.6 x 56 x 44.5 cm (33 5/16 x 22 1/16 x 17 1/2 in.)
Each of these two walnut armchairs is upholstered in brown leather. Its seats and backs are square. The upholstered arms are straight. The leather between the arm supports has a simple indentation at the front. The apron is scalloped. All of the leather is worn and cracked. Rows of large brass tacks attach the leather to the chair frame. The wooden legs are elaborately turned with an X design of curved S shaped cross stretchers positioned near the feet. There is a large wooden finial connecting the two stretchers that comprise the X where they meet in the center.
