This horizontal watercolor in muted colors is a view upstream at a series of small boats on a river. The far bank on the river bisects the painting horizontally and is backed by low black hills and blurred greenish-gray trees. In front of the trees many tiny, indistinct spectators line the water.  The parade of small mostly brown boats in the regatta, become increasingly indistinct upstream in the distance. Each seems to carry a man and a woman, discerned from their light colored, blurred clothing, the men often standing with long poles apparently to help in navigation.  At the center left, the corner of a brown structure with a yellowish canopy juts into the water. It is unclear whether it is part of a larger passenger vessel or an open air gathering place on land.  Colorfully clothed, imprecisely painted figures seem to be relaxing on the deck behind a zigzagged railing. The slightly rippled, mostly off-white and light greenish-blue water dominates much of this painting with a few shadows of darker greenish-blue.The sky with blue and gray cumulus clouds frames the top of the painting disappearing behind the low hills and lending the impression of threatening rain.
