This rectangular rack, which was used to hold the canes of visitors or inhabitants upon entering the building, was hung on a wall like a large mirror and so there is a hook on the back. Atop the rectangular frame is a gilded, open-work arch made of foliage-like scrolls on either side of a sheaf of wheat tied in the middle with a bow. The rectangular frame below holds a mirror which is covered with geometric gilded wood latticework. Partitioning the latticework into five geometric sections are four wood diagonal bars, each several inches wide, painted red with gilded accents and a darker red wheat motif. The rest of the wooden frame is painted in the same design. Beneath the arch and above the bottom of the frame, there are two bands of the decorative red wood. Inserted between both the upper and lower pairs of bands is a row of decorative wood carvings that resemble chess pieces  painted red, white, and black. The once-gilded pieces that look like buttons on the vertical sides of the frame are the fronts, or end-stops, of the goose-necked hooks on which the canes can rest. The four hooks on each side are parallel to each other so that the canes can rest horizontally. They are spaced evenly across the frame.
