This tiny painted altar shows three Christian saints: Spyridon, Francis, and Anthony of Padua. The work is less than a foot tall and wide. It is a triptych made of worn and damaged carved wood. The central section is the largest. It is a painted and gilded arched panel surrounded by an elaborate arched wooden frame with carved openwork leaves and other carvings. The central painting shows the interior of a religious building with a human figure squeezed into a tall, narrow, domed box placed in the center of a raised, fenced area. The box is flanked by a pair of very tall candelabras. There is a large, rectangular, patterned tapestry between the box in the foreground and a heavily decorated domed architectural feature behind the tapestry. Two smaller panels flank the central one and are connected to it with hinges. Each portrays a friar with tonsure wearing a simple brown, cowl necked robe. The friars have gilded halos, and carry their attributes. The one on the left has a heavily wrinkled forehead and holds a book and a thin scepter-like cross. The friar on the right, with a smooth brown and a kindly direct gaze, holds a small cage enclosing an emaciated looking human figure.
