This six paneled horizontal Japanese screen is predominantly a large expanse of gilded paper upon which a watercolor landscape lines the bottom. The ground is painted as a gray, narrow, slowly inclining strip of land with blurred edges. Small hills and rocks dot the ground with a gnarled low blossoming plum tree with far-reaching branches, arising on the right center and providing a perch for numerous white and black sparrows and other birds. Stems of small, faint white clusters of plum blossom line the tree, especially on the center two panels and numerous black and gray flying birds soar through all but the outer two panels.  In the right hand panel a tall, sparsely foliated green pine tree rises straight upwards to three-fourths the height of the screen. The screen is framed by an unobtrusive thin gray stripe with lighter, very small, round  gray flowers.
