This bifold screen is painted with watercolors. It depicts a scene in which three Japanese men taste wine that has soured into vinegar. The screen is made of gilded paper, which gives the background a textured quality of gold speckles on brown. On the side to our right is a tall, matte brown tree with a split trunk. Leafy branches bend to our left across the top of the screen. To our left of the tree are two men standing and leaning over a wine barrel. The man next to the tree wears a wide white wrap over a brown garment. He has a full head of brown hair, a long thin face, and medium toned skin. His left hand is resting on the barrel and his right is held up with a pointed finger. The second man wears a brown robe over a white garment. He is mostly bald with a round face, medium toned skin, a  mustache, and an expression of distaste. His right arm is held close to his body; his left arm is bent up with the index finger pointed. In the center, and crossing the fold, are branches with green leaves and white flowers with open petals. On the side to our left is the third man. He wears a white robe with black trim, and although he is mostly bald, has a brown scarf on the back of his head. His face is in profile; he has a long face, pointy chin, medium toned skin, and a mustache and goatee. In his right hand, he holds what appears to be a brown spoon. He also has an expression of distaste.
