Silk and metal appliqué, cut velvet
This burgundy velvet panel and valence dates from the 17th century Italy and is decorated with silk and metal appliques. The valence has sections that curve downward and are edged in gold applique and have large gold scallop-like emblems at each high and low point. The bottom edge is curved and has a delicate dark grey fringe. There are areas that are faded. The panel is also burgundy velvet and has a delicate off-white floral and stem pattern throughout with larger wavy ribbons forming a border.
