This pair of armchairs flank a console table in the Raphael Room. The wood framing is stained in a dark finish; the back and seat are upholstered in a red brocade fabric. The back of the chair is square and has a decorative fabric border along the bottom edge. The armrests are slightly curved to a rounded end. An attached wood piece close to the seat back is carved in a leaf-like pattern; the posts supporting the armrests are carved spindles between two blocks of wood. The seat is also a square but has no decorative trim. The legs’ carving continues the pattern of spindles between blocks of wood. The stretcher at the lower back of the chair is straight, while the front stretcher is elaborately carved in two intersecting scrolls with leaflike designs.
