This small silver 19th Century Scottish Perfume Box has a hinged lid that fastens in back and fits over a narrow, vertical lip at the top of the container.  A silver ring encircles the bottom of the container and forms its base.  Two narrow silver decorative strips encircle the lateral sides of the lid and when the box is closed, then encircle the very top of the box. The box’s six irregular undulating sides and lid each have differing engraved designs on them. Among these designs is an erect snake, head in the air ready to strike; a peacock its tail spread in full circle behind its body; and an arch formed by branches of what appear to be flowers above a basket-like container with flowers. The lid displays a bird with a large eye and open beak standing on a branch with several leaves. On the bottom of the container the initials "J.A.V." are inscribed. On the inside there is an "H" with a small castle above it.
