This large vertical tempera and gold painting depicts the Archangel Michael as the dominant figure, filling much of the space. He is a light-skinned figure, sitting up straight on a throne of blue and gold brocade that can be seen behind his head. He has long brown hair and wears a burgundy headband with gold ornaments and a gold cross at the top. A gold halo is behind his head. He has youthful facial features; his eyes are wide open. He wears a suit of armor with a green, chainmail tunic with gold studs on the front, and red shoes. His right arm is raised and he holds a lance that crosses his right leg. His left arm is bent down and he holds a sword with gold trim on the top and handle. His legs are spread open and his knees are bent slightly. Across his lap is a long bar attached to the two pans of a scale of justice by red ropes. Large, gold and brown trumpet-shaped wings project from his back on both sides. On the lower portion of the canvas to our left, a light-skinned, haloed angel weighs a soul on one side of the scale. The soul is dressed in white. The angel wears a long white gown with an ornate collar and deep cuffs. They have long brown hair, and their head is tilted down as they gaze down on the soul she holds on the scale. A long green and gold wing projects up behind her. On the lower portion to our right, another white-clothed soul rests in the pan on the other side of the scale. This soul kneels with its hands held up over its face. On the red and pink tile floor, directly below archangel Michael’s feet, is Satan in the guise of a two-headed ogre. Michael  is stepping on the creature, whose body  is lying horizontal across the floor. The creature is clothed in red and green and has orange legs with weblike feet. One head lies on the floor. It has large red eyes rimmed in white and green, a long nose, and a partially open mouth with sharp teeth. The other head can be seen behind the scale pan to our right. This head is green, with spiked hair on top, white eyes, a snout nose, and white fangs projecting down on each side of its downturned mouth. Behind this scene is a wall with floral carvings on a gold surface.
