        Purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner with a second matching dolphin (museum no. S5s30.2) and a stone sculpture of a dog (museum no. S32-35) from the antique dealer A. Clerle, Venice for a total of 500 lire on 2 October 1897.
                    Commentary
        Isabella Stewart Gardner kept meticulous records of many of her acquisitions. In keeping with this legacy, object information is continually being reviewed, updated, and enriched in order to give greater access to the collection.
