Purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner from an English collection through the art dealers Wildenstein & Co., Paris for 6,000 francs on 2 April 1900, through the American painter and collector Ralph W. Curtis (1854-1922) and Fernand Robert, her regular agent in Paris.
