Chasuble Front, 1700-1725
Silk, silver-shot tabby embroidered with silk yarns
This vertical fabric, made of silk, is Italian. It is the front of a chasuble, which is the outermost liturgical vestment worn by clergy in some Western-tradition Christian churches. The background is tannish pink, on which there is embroidered a dense but delicate winding floral design. The colors are soft pinks, greens, golds, and blues. Two identical light brown woven bands, with a pattern of fleur-de-lis separated by diagonal bars, run vertically down the fabric, separating the design into three panels.
