Peony Cup, early 19th century
Enameled porcelain, 4.3 x 7.5 cm (1 11/16 x 2 15/16 in.)
A Chinese enameled flower-shaped porcelain cup that has a painted gold rim and features an aquamarine interior. The rim of the cup is slightly fluted and flares out. The body of the cup is hand-painted light yellow and has very faint vertical waves painted in brown across the surface. The body also has painted horizontal brick-shaped petals outlined in dark pink. The bottom of the cup features a raised stem relief painted in green with some brown accents and blue-green leaves that extend up the sides of the cup. A stand of three small knobs on the bottom of the cup raise it above the ground.
