Weekend Concert Series
Rachel Barton Pine
With Matthew Hagle, Tara Hagle, Carson Howell, Philip Rawlinson, and Ingrid Tverberg
Sunday
October 26, 2025
1:30 - 3:30 pm
Calderwood Hall
Last year, Rachel Barton Pine took a thrilling “test-drive” on the Gardner Museum’s extraordinary 1770s viola d’amore (on display in the Yellow Room). Delighted with the instrument, she is returning to play a recital on violin and viola d’amore, including our extraordinary and rare instrument. Our viola d’amore has seven bowed strings and additional sympathetic strings that add a silvery glow to the sound. Championed by composers as varied as Vivaldi, Haydn, and Bernstein, the instrument developed from roots in Middle Eastern music.
