Provenance
Purchased by the American scholar and archaeologist Thomas Whittemore (1871-1950), possibly in Munich in February 1910.
Loaned to Isabella Stewart Gardner by Thomas Whittemore on 7 February 1911 and officially given as a gift to her on 24 September 1923.
Commentary
Isabella Stewart Gardner kept meticulous records of many of her acquisitions. In keeping with this legacy, object information is continually being reviewed, updated, and enriched in order to give greater access to the collection.
