Purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner from the sale of Hirase Yoichiro's collection by the Asian art firm Yamanaka & Company (active 1895-1944) on 6-8 November 1902 at Copley Hall, Boston, lot 256 for $245. (as by Kano-Tangen, dated 1720)
Commentary
