Armchair, 17th century

This 17th century armchair is made of walnut with dark brown, rectangular, leather panels used as the seat and back. The frame members are largely straight, simple, undecorated, and badly scarred. The chair is angled slightly backwards and there are a few minor curves: at the ends of the arms, on the finials attached to the back supports, and decorating the supporting cross pieces that connect the front and back of the frame near the floor. The rectangular leather panels of the seat and back are attached to the simple wood frame with rows of large brass tacks. The tacks are flowerlike: they have domed heads and 6 radial petals.
