This oil painting is a bust-length portrait of a Venetian government official. He has light skin, dark eyes, and is bald-headed with gray and white facial hair. He wears a rust-colored velvet jacket with a high collar fastened at the neck. Whitish-gray wisps of fabric, likely an undershirt, peek out between the two sides of the jacket across his upper chest. The man’s light-skinned face is fringed by a gray and white mustache and short, well-trimmed beard and sideburns. His eyebrows are somewhat darker and sit closely above his widely spaced eyes which are looking sharply to our left. He has high cheekbones with slightly sunken cheeks within his narrow oval face. His long, prominent nose and visible nostrils point downward to his tightly closed, narrow-lipped mouth. He gives an overall impression of being stern and possibly skeptical.
