This etching of an outdoor setting in Venice is printed on light tan laid paper. The focus of this image is a shadowy open passageway in middle ground, extending through a building that leads to a canal, in the deep background. Right next to the shore there is a seated figure, whereas on the canal we see a gondola with passengers and a gondolier. In the foreground, around the passageway is a façade of the building. There are two multi-paned windows to the right of the passageway opening. In front of the windows, there are four human figures wearing wide-brimmed hats, seated at a table.  To the left of the passageway opening, there is a standing figure with short hair, wearing a long dress. They are holding a child in their arms, who looks upwards with their mouth agape. Even closer to the viewer, in the foreground, there are several trees with narrow trunks and some leafage, to the right and in front of the passageway.
