Christ Washing the Feet of the Disciples, 1480-1490

This stained glassed window from a Milan Cathedral dated 1480-1490, shows Christ washing the feet of the disciples. The image shows three standing disciples behind a kneeling Christ washing the feet of a fourth seated disciple This disciple sits on a low, brown bench lowering one foot into a round basin. The figures all have round halos upright behind their heads, three yellow, one white, and Christ’s in gold. All are light-skinned and, except for Christ, are bearded with various lengthed hair. Each wears a long, brilliantly colored robe: Christ in a burgundy robe with pushed up sleeves, two disciples in bright blue robes with red cloaks, one with a turquoise undergarment and pink robe, and the final disciple with a white undergarment and purple robe. The figures take up most of the window with what appears to be a courtyard, backed by a grey wall, floor, arch and in the distance, houses.
