Provenance
Purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner (as a work called "Poetry") from the exporter Charles H. Rafard, Paris on 9 May 1892 for 5,000 francs, through Fernand Robert her regular agent in Paris.
Commentary
Isabella Stewart Gardner kept meticulous records of many of her acquisitions. In keeping with this legacy, object information is continually being reviewed, updated, and enriched in order to give greater access to the collection.
