Garment Fabric with Ikat Gajak Pendant and Plant Forms, 1875-1900
Ikat silk: cut velvet, pile-warp-dyed, 684.5 x 34.3 cm (269 1/2 x 13 1/2 in.)
This rectangular, vertical garment fabric is dyed, cut velvet, with a vertical, symmetrical design. The background is deep red and dark black or green, and the main design elements are deep yellow and white or cream with red accents. A central, symmetrical pattern suggests perhaps a tree with branches and leaves, or similar flowering vines. Stylized, abstract, one dimensional floral and leaf patterns are above and below the central pattern.
