This small porcelain Chinese incense burner is made of shiny, white porcelain. It is shaped like a lion and is stylized like a Foo Dog. It sits up on its haunches with its left paw resting on a small open footstool. Its body is erect. The animal’s mouth is open wide, revealing a ball. His tongue, upper and lower teeth are visible. The teeth are small, even, and unthreatening. He has bulging, round, dark eyes and a pug nose. Small ears extend sideways, pointing left and right. His mane is curly and well groomed. It is delineated on the back of his head by rows of neat, snail-like spirals that end in a row of spade forms with incised parallel lines to indicate individual strands. His thick tail is pointing straight up. The fur on his haunches is shown as a mound of snail-like spiral forms. There is a large opening in the center of his back to hold incense.
