Purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner from a London art dealer, Mr. Ward, in May 1887 for £ 11.15 with another Meryon etching, "La Galerie, Notre Dame, Paris" (museum no. 2.4.o.86), through scholar and critic, Charles Eliot Norton (1827–1908).
Commentary
Isabella Stewart Gardner kept meticulous records of many of her acquisitions. In keeping with this legacy, object information is continually being reviewed, updated, and enriched in order to give greater access to the collection.
