Side Chair, late 18th century
Painted walnut, cane, 93.5 x 52 x 44 cm (36 13/16 x 20 1/2 x 17 5/16 in.)
The chair is carved from walnut and painted in cream and blue. The seat is shield-shaped while the back is oval shaped, and both the seat and back have blue cane work. The legs, circular in cross-section, are tapered and fluted, and rest on cylindrical feet. The front rails of the chair bows out gently and along with the top of the seat back it is carved with green and yellow floral design.
