Created from a patchwork of tapestry fragments, likely as a pendant to the Trumpeters tapestry (museum no. T19s3) of similar size.
The two tapestries were purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner probably for about 1,800 francs from an unknown dealer in Paris on about 2 June 1892, through the exporter Charles H. Rafard and his employee Fernand Robert, Paris.
