Five musicians playing instruments appear in this large, horizontal, rectangular fresco. Three musicians stand in the foreground and are depicted in considerable detail, while the two in the background are obstructed by the others with only their heads and the outline of the body on the man on the left visible. All the figures have light skin. The group is presented only to their waists, as if they were in a grey framed picture, with a soft blue background, but the instruments of the front three stick out beyond the painted frame, as do  pieces of music and the fingers of one musician, thus creating a “trick of the eye”. In the front row on the left, a hefty man in a glistening rose shirt puffs his cheeks and rounds his lips around the mouthpiece of a keyless trombone. The long index and third fingers of his oversized right hand separate, one on each side of the trombone’s mouthpiece, and rest against his mouth. The fingers of the other hand are hooked around the slide of the trombone. His bulging eyes and curly, on-end hair suggest great breath pressure is needed to play his horn. In the center, a figure plays an early form of the flute which is long, slightly curved and graduated in diameter. They hold the flute laterally to their right, resting their barely open lips on the lateral side of the end and positioning both hands as one would hold a flute. Their over-sized left hand reaches in front of their body to cover the flute’s holes in the mid-part of the flute with their elbow resting on the edge of the picture frame. Their right hand reached up from behind toward the lower end of the flute, fingering its holes. Their head is turned to their left but their eyes gaze toward the right, seemingly eying their flute. Their yellow, long sleeved frock has vertical slits at the top and mid-point of their sleeves, and a loose, white collar with elongated points. A rose-colored hat with a soft white feather is tied under their chin in front of their ears, strands of brown hair seen around the edges. The musician at the right plays what possibly could be a precursor of the oboe, or a very long recorder. He blows in the top end and holds the long thin silver tube in front of himself, the bottom extending well beyond the lower picture frame, his left forearm and hand resting on the frame and two of his long, bony fingers extend beyond its implied boundary. He wears a plain grey shirt. His abundant centrally parted white hair, long white mustache and beard, deeply wrinkled checks and weary-looking eyes suggest his old age. In front of the old musician is a white piece of music, extending over the picture’s false frame. Peering over the old musician’s shoulder at the far right of the fresco is the head of a salt and pepper haired man with ruddy cheeks and a slight white mustache blowing on the top of an otherwise not seen instrument. To the far left, behind the trombonist the head and body of a presumably fifth musician is roughly sketched, but other than his crossed eyes, prominent nose and red upper lip, other aspects, including his instrument are not detailed.
