Chasuble Front, late 17th century

This segment of a chasuble, which is a sleeveless outer vestment worn by a Catholic priest when celebrating mass, dates from the late 17th century and is made of silk and metal brocade. This chasuble front measures approximately 25.5 by 16.25 inches and has scrolls, leaves and vines woven into the fabric. Although there are areas where the original reddish, green and gold pattern is visible, it generally appears to be quite faded. A small gold fringe borders the bottom edge of this chasuble.
