This vintage certificate, written in 1885, was from the New York Yacht Club. In it, they express thanks to the owners of the sailing vessel, the Puritan, for building and racing the vessel to represent the New York Yacht Club in the America’s Cup event, and for bringing home the championship. The certificate was presented to John Lowell Gardner, Jr., Isabella’s husband, who was a part owner of the ship. These signatures appear on the certificate to our left, Wm. P. Douglas, Frank C. Lawrence Jr. These signatures appear to our right, Philip Schuyler, J Frederic L Ames, James D. Smith, Ogden Goelet.
