Provenance
Purchased by Isabella Stewart Gardner with a second lion (museum no. S5s2.2) from the connoisseur and art dealer Stefano Bardini (1936-1922), Florence for 3,190 lire on 6 October 1897.
Commentary
Isabella Stewart Gardner kept meticulous records of many of her acquisitions. In keeping with this legacy, object information is continually being reviewed, updated, and enriched in order to give greater access to the collection.
