This is a vertical, sepia-toned photograph of Sarah Bernhardt taken by Melandri. Seated, the actress is photographed in a three-quarter length pose, dressed in a long-sleeved white dress with a high fluffy collar and a corsage pinned at her left shoulder. She sits slightly turned to her right. Her hair is pulled up into a loose top-knot. Her face is in profile and shows her eyes looking up and to the right. She is posed in front of a background of grillwork.
