Delphinium elatum, Delphinium x cultorum
These spire-shaped flowers bloom in shades of purple, white, cerulean, and azure blue. Gardner Museum horticulturists grow Delphinium from seed each fall for display in the Courtyard during spring and summer. After flowering, the plants return to the greenhouses where they are cut back to allow a new flush of growth and a second showing in the Courtyard.
