Commentary

This letter was penned to Isabella by her friend, historian and novelist, Henry Adams. He writes to Isabella that he is watching an unidentified game – something he admittedly finds very little pleasure in, but knows Isabella would find thrilling, saying, “I envy you, who always, even at your worst, loved the game, whatever it might be, and delighted in playing it.”
