These 18th Century Italian nightstands are elaborately fashioned from pine, pear and walnut veneer with inlays of ivory, mother-of-pearl and various woods. They stand almost three-feet high and are roughly rectangular-shaped, except for the front where the two sides flare forward in roughly 30 degree angles. A wedge-shaped section has been inserted at a diagonal between the front and the flared sides. The background is dark brown wood, possibly walnut veneer. The nightstands are raised a couple inches on low square legs, supporting a graduated base of several levels. The body of the chest is comprised of three drawers set within dark-brown ribbed molding separating the drawers from the chest’s side and each drawer from one another. Each drawer has a raised rectangle, dark wood molding which frames the decoration on the front of the Nightstand.  In the center panel these decorations include: a prominent, multi-lobbed ivory inset in the center surrounded by a leaved pattern made of lighter wood; four lighter wood flowers, one in each corner of the center part of each drawer, each with a mother-of-pearl middle; and two tear-dropped shaped mother-of-pearl insets between the center design and the two flowers flanking. The two lateral sides of each drawer have a leaf-like design of lighter wood in the center on which brass-colored circular knobs for opening the drawers have been placed. At the top of the wedge-shaped diagonal section on each side of the front drawers, an eye-catching torso of a female nude has been carved in the lightest wood, casting almost a golden-color. These nudes, one hand on their hips the other above their heads, have long curly hair and a drape across their lower torso. Their heads and raised arms seem to support the flared top of the cabinet, and their torsos rest on a wood support at the level of the bottom of the top drawer. Strips of slightly curved dark wood front the remainder of the lateral wedge on each side and are decorated with leaf-like patterns made of lighter wood and four, equally spaced multi-lobed mother-of-pearl insets running down the strip. The lateral sides of the chest have simple dark wood veneer moldings at the top and bottom, and a single panel of dark wood covering the entire side, enhanced by inserts of lighter wood, leaf-motifs and scattered mother-of-pearl accents.  

The top of the chest has a very elaborate picture of a lighter wood, long-robed crowned woman carrying a scepter whose face, neck, and hands are represented in ivory. She seems to riding on a cloud against a dark wood background, in turn surrounded by complex loops and leaves in medium wood, and multiple small birds, butterflies, flowers and other small ornaments made of mostly mother-of-pearl insets and possibly a couple ivory insets. Overall these chests are very ornate, highly detailed works of art.
