Set of Three Stools (Sgabelli), mid 17th century

A set of three Italian stools that are square and have an upholstered seat. Each top of the seat is deep red velvet. The side panels are stitched with thick white thread, over which are patterns of stitching in orange, yellow, and green thread. The top pattern is a criss cross; the pattern below is a tassel pattern. Each tassel is decorated with a gold and white appliqué. The four legs of the stool are made of dark walnut and have gilded carvings. Four carved walnut bars horizontally connect the legs.
